In civilized countries, hardly you hear the shrilling sound of the Siren except when there is an emergency, but in most third world countries, it is considered a show of affluence and oppression with the full backings of the law enforcement agents that should control the act of environmental noise pollution and nuisance.
I laid awake on my bed rearranging my priorities and the next move to make my life and my family's better, and behold at about 01:35hrs of July 1, 2012, the madness began, loud and ear piercing multiple shrills of sirens from quite a distance from where i live that lasted for close to 35minutes.
What really bothered me was, the man who surrounded himself with the siren, how normal or insane is he? At 1:00am in the morning? Where are the obstructions? What is the emergency? Why the need for the Sirens?
Since there are different Sirens sounds allocated to the various emergency response agencies, i am aware of the siren sounds used by the rich and politicians of our society, and the sound i heard, was the same.
I suddenly realized that it is only an insane, callous, egoistic, proud, stupid individual without any respect for other residents rights to a peaceful night rest that would do such a thing.
I am truly convinced that such a person lacks the education that is a natural appendage to a humble rich person that worked hard for his riches.
In my opinion this careless show of power can only be acceptable in a country like Nigeria where a 419er can be granted the use of siren by the same law enforcement agents, that should have questioned his requirement for such privilege, apprehend him and lock him up for good. But how could they? Their last iota of respect (The Police Uniform) has been compromised by poverty and the greed to be like the 419er or the Stupid rich man with the sirens.
The most surprising issue is that the neighbours of this miscreant are too scared to question the violation of their rights to sleep in peace at night, because in their own little minds they also wish that one day, they would be in a position to abuse the use of the Sirens too.
What a Country? My own Nigeria? What happened to us? Where did we take the wrong bend?
The law enforcement agents should do the right thing by convicting anybody that violates the Environmental Noise Pollution Law.
This privilege that is apportioned to agencies that deals with Emergency response is in the wrong hands that are too stupid to know when to use it.
We should respect peaceful coexistence amongst each other, remember tables do turn, or don't they?
