Shameless Nigeria TV Stations

A Black June 3 2012
Bellowing from the Dana Airline that Crashed in Lagos

A Dana Airline flight from Abuja with 153 passengers including In-flight Crew members crashed in the Iju-Ishaga area of Agege close to the Murtala Murtala Airport.

Though as at the time of writing this Blog, there has been no confirmation of survivors.

But the surprising thing about this incident, is what do the Nigeria Television Stations consider Breaking news.

We have close to 10 Television Stations in Lagos and about 4 out of these 10 at Close proximity to the crash site.

When i received the sad news of the crash at about 16:52hrs, i scanned through the Channels to check if at least 1 Station is airing the crash live, there was none. In other words there was no Television Station Crew on ground to capture and report the news live in the course of their duty to rapidly disseminate information to their Nigerian Viewers.

That is how our TV stations operate in Nigeria, both Public and private do not care about the benefits of their being on ground at the site of a National disaster that must have taken the lives of about 153 Nigerians.

They continued with their scheduled Christian Hour Programs, because these programs are money spinners to them than reporting a National Disaster.

All i could see were their threaders, instead of taking a cue from CNN that broke into the Queens Diamond Jubilee broadcast to report the crash live with Jonathan Mann as the Anchor.

There should be a National policy mandating all TV Stations to concisely cover any National Disaster Live within their Location, in order to inform the families of the people that might have been involved in such disaster.

May the souls of the passengers and the people on ground that died rest in perfect peace. Amen.
